I plop in an Alias DVD on Monday afternoon, 1 pm, and it won’t read the disc.  I try other DVDs in the drive and it makes this strange dying noise.

Pick up the phone and call IBM.  They agree to replace the part and send it out. I hang up; call timer on the Siemens phone reads 6:17 (6 minutes, 17 seconds).  This includes all phone menus, etc.

I come into work today (Tuesday) the day after.  A replacement CDRW/DVD drive has arrived via Purolator with return waybill.

I now have the 755 model instead of the 745 that came standard on T40s.  24x CDR burner. 

It took 6 minutes 17 seconds.  I am sealing the box now with tape and bringing it to the shipping department downstairs in this building;  They will get it picked up by Purolator and send back.
